University of Calgary Aurora Research Group
The University of Calgary physics research department was looking for a way to gain more meaningful insights faster from their data they were collecting on the Aurora Borealis. Due to having multiple data sources, they were combing through giant spreadsheets to look for patterns and specific areas of the aurora to look at. They wanted to find a visual way to display all their information and quickly find areas of interest.
VizworX created a data visualization which displays the globe and overlays a visual representation of the aurora generated from the sensor data. The visualization features a 3D view of the aurora from the gathered data. This not only allows researchers to spot areas of interest faster, but also allows for focused data collection later on.
By using the new tool, researchers experienced significant increases in efficiency when it comes to finding patterns in the data they’ve collected. As a result, they are able to focus their energy on interesting points of the aurora. Their research processes have not only become faster but also more targeted.
